Saint Mary wife of Cleopas, the Holy Myrrh-Bearer

Feast Day: May 23rd

& Sunday of the Holy Myrrh-Bearers (2nd Sunday after Pascha)

The Life of Saint Mary: She is among the women present at the Crucifixion of Jesus…

Saint Mary is one of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women

Apolytikion: Unto the Myrrh-Bearing Women did the Angel cry out as he stood by the Grave: Myrrh-oils are meet for the dead, but Christ hath proved to be a stranger to corruption. But cry out:  The Lord is Risen, granting great mercy to the world.

Kontakion: When Thou didst cry, Rejoice, unto the Myrrh-Bearers, Thou didst make the lamentation of Eve the first mother to cease by Thy Resurrection, O Christ God. And Thou didst bid Thine Apostles to preach:  The Saviour is Risen from the grave.

Saint Mary went with Saint Mary Magdalene to Zakynthos to preach the Risen Christ. They went to a village now named Maries, named after these two Holy Women. Their footprint can still be seen in the rock where they stepped off the boat.

Saint Mary was married to the Holy Apostle Cleopas of the 70, he was a brother of Saint Joseph the Betrothed. He was also one of the first to see the Risen Christ, when Christ accompanied him and Saint Luke the Evangelist on the Road to Emmaus.
