Feast Day: July 22nd

& Sunday of the Holy Myrrh-Bearers (2nd Sunday after Pascha)

The Life of Saint Mary Magdalene: She cried out with joy, “Rabboni”…

Akathist Hymn

Apolytikion: O Holy Mary Magdalene, you kept Christ’s Commandments, and followed Him Who for our sakes was Born of a Virgin. Today we celebrate your Memory, and receive forgiveness through your Prayers.

Kontakion: When God, who is transcendent in essence, came with flesh into the world, O Myrrhbearer, He received you as a true disciple, for you turned all your love toward Him; henceforth you would yourself work many healings. Now that you have passed into Heaven, never cease to intercede for the world!

Kontakion: With others standing before the Saviour’s Cross, weeping and suffering with the Mother of God, Glorious Mary Magdalene offered praises saying: What is this strange wonder? He chooses to suffer Who upholds the whole creation. Glory to Your Power.

Saint Mary Magdalene is one of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women

Apolytikion: Unto the Myrrh-Bearing Women did the Angel cry out as he stood by the Grave: Myrrh-oils are meet for the dead, but Christ hath proved to be a stranger to corruption. But cry out:  The Lord is Risen, granting great mercy to the world.

Kontakion: When Thou didst cry, Rejoice, unto the Myrrh-Bearers, Thou didst make the lamentation of Eve the first mother to cease by Thy Resurrection, O Christ God. And Thou didst bid Thine Apostles to preach:  The Saviour is Risen from the grave.

Together with Our Most Holy Mother of God, Saint Mary Magdalene saw and spoke with Christ at His Empty Tomb.

Saint Mary Magdalene and Our Most Holy Theotokos ran to tell the Disciples the most joyous news, that Christ has Risen from the dead.

Saint Mary Magdalene went with Saint Mary wife of Cleopas to Zakynthos to preach the Risen Christ. They went to a village now named Maries, named after these two Holy Women. Their footprint can still be seen in the rock where they stepped off the boat.

After Christ’s Crucifixion and Resurrection, Saint Mary Magdalene spoke to Caesar the Emperor of Rome in front of a large crowd. She picked up an egg from the table to explain His Resurrection, but the Emperor was not impressed and replied “There is much chance of a human being returning to life as much as there is a chance for the egg that you hold to turn red.” Immediately the egg Miraculously turned red in her hand.
