Saint George the Great Martyr

Feast Day: April 23rd (or Bright Monday if Feast Day falls during Great Lent)

The Life of Saint George: On the final night the Holy Martyr Prayed fervently, and as he slept, he saw the Lord, Who raised him up with His hand, and embraced him…

Akathist Hymn

Apolytikion: Liberator of captives, defender of the poor, physician of the sick, and champion of kings, O Trophy-bearer, Great Martyr George, intercede with Christ God that our souls be saved.

Kontakion: Cultivated by God, you became manifest as an honorable tiller gathering for yourself the sheaves of virtue. For you sowed with tears but reaped with gladness; in the contest you competed with your blood and came away with Christ. By your intercessions, O Holy One, all are granted forgiveness of sins.

The Parents of Saint George are Saints too, their names are Saint Gerontius and Saint Polychronia.

The Victorious Great Martyr George, through his faith and the strength of Christ, slayed a dragon and rescued a Princess and consequently the whole town. He continues to help us all today in our struggle against our enemies, and Saint George has even been seen by countless people riding on his white horse.

Saint George suffered many tortures for his Christian faith, but he remained unshaken in his love for Christ, and was Crowned a Victorious Martyr of Christ.
