“Christ is Risen, my joy!”

Countless people would flock to Saint Seraphim to receive his Blessing, his guidance, and his Miracles.

“The Lord seeks a heart filled to overflowing with love for God and our neighbour; this is the Throne on which He loves to sit and on which He appears in the fullness of His Heavenly Glory. “Son, give me thine heart” (Proverbs 23:26), for in the human heart the Kingdom of God can be contained.”

Regardless of the time of year Saint Seraphim always greeted everyone with the words, “Christ is Risen, my joy!” His love for Christ shone in his heart and overflowed to everyone around him.

Many times Saint Seraphim would hide in the bushes, in order to maintain his silence and Pray to God. Children would often find him crouched behind some bushes. He especially loved children, and when they found him he would rise to play with them and speak with them about God.

“The sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit is peace lived and joy, for God creates joy wherever He is.”

Saint Seraphim once had a now famous conversation with his Spiritual child Nicholas Motovilov. Nicholas had a life-long question, about the aim of the Christian life, of which he had never received a satisfactory answer for. Saint Seraphim told him “The true aim of our Christian life consists in the acquisition of the Holy Spirit of God.”

Then Father Seraphim took me very firmly by the shoulders and said: “We are both in the Spirit of God now, my son…”
